Samsung Appoints TM Roh as Co-CEO and Head of Device eXperience Division

Seoul, 21 November 2025 — Samsung Electronics has named TM Roh (Roh Tae-moon) as its new CEO and Head of the Device eXperience (DX) Division, sharing the role with Young Hyun Jun, who leads the Device Solutions business.

A Return to the Co-CEO Model

The appointment restores Samsung’s traditional co-CEO leadership structure, splitting oversight between consumer devices (DX) and its memory/chip business. This change comes after the company had been operating under a single CEO following the death of its former co-CEO, Han Jong-Hee.

Broader Role, Greater Responsibility

In his expanded role, Roh will continue to oversee Samsung’s Mobile eXperience (MX) business, while now also managing the broader DX division — covering smartphones, TVs, and home appliances.

To support this transition, Samsung has made additional leadership changes:

  • Janghyun Yoon has been named President & CTO of DX, as well as Head of Samsung Research.
  • Hongkun Park has been appointed Head of the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT).

Strategic Implications

Analysts suggest that Roh’s elevation signals Samsung’s intent to double down on its strong-performing consumer divisions, especially mobile, TV, and appliances. Given market dynamics, placing a proven mobile-leader at the helm of all device experience could help drive innovation and operational cohesion.

Roh, who has led Samsung’s mobile business since 2020, brings deep experience in smartphone development, including foldables and AI-driven devices.

What It Means for Samsung

Stability & Continuity: In a period of leadership changes, Roh’s appointment provides a stable hand for Samsung’s consumer-facing businesses.

Consolidated Vision: With Roh heading device experience, Samsung’s consumer electronics arms may benefit from more unified strategy and faster decision-making.

AI & Innovation Focus: Roh’s past work on AI-powered mobile devices positions him well to steer Samsung’s future in smart appliances, connected TVs, and beyond.
